Microsoft has updated Office 365 for Mac monthly for some time. This feature was already added to PowerPoint back in September.
In Microsoft Word, you can now check a box labeled “Embed fonts in file” to make sure that your document looks as intended on the computers it’s viewed on, even if the target computer didn’t already have all the necessary fonts. Microsoft also expanded the proofreading tools in PowerPoint with grammar suggestions. There’s also support for creating Microsoft Teams meetings directly from Outlook, the ability to share your calendar with other people, and a new multiple-time-zone view for the calendar for up to three time zones. You can click on a meeting event in your calendar to see a list of attendees or disable forwarding of meeting invites by attendees to keep your meetings from ballooning to include people you don’t want. Most of the notable additions that don’t require Mojave are for Outlook. You can only take standard photos-no square mode, no video modes, no filters, no HDR or Live Photo options-images are always sent to your Mac as jpegs rather than HEIF files to maximize compatibility, and images are saved at a lower-than-native resolution with the phone’s EXIF data stripped out. On your iOS device, the camera app opens. Under the name of the iOS device you’ll use to take the photo, select Take Photo. Also related to Mojave, you can now use Apple’s Continuity Camera feature to insert a photo directly from your iPhone’s photos to a slide in PowerPoint. Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook all support Mojave’s dark theme. The headline feature is, of course, dark mode support, which requires Mojave to work. Microsoft has released version 0801 of Office 365 for the Mac platform, bringing support for a couple of key Mac features introduced in September’s macOS 10.14 Mojave release, as well as a number of small features and user experience improvements not related to Mojave.

Without the dynamic wallpaper selected, your wallpaper stays the same when you jump in and out of dark mode, lessening its impact. If you have the dynamic wallpaper selected, your wallpaper will change from the daylight scene to the nighttime scene when you enable dark mode (and vice versa). You can find it by going to System Preferences > Desktop & Screen Saver. With Mojave, Apple has introduced a dynamic wallpaper that slowly changes its lighting throughout the day, going from a bright, sunny desert scene during the day and transitioning to a cool, dark screen at night. Just go to System Preferences > General and you'll see the Light and Dark options at the top for Appearance. I haven't found a shortcut for toggling between light and dark modes, but it's not too difficult to locate it in System Preferences. Chrome's translucent title bar, however, looks darker against a dark background.

In Apple's browser, the title bar at the top turns black but web pages are displayed in the same manner as they are in regular, light mode. The Photos app and iTunes, in particular, look great in dark mode - the colors of your photos and album art really pop against the black background.ĭark mode's impact is felt less in Safari. On most of Apple's own apps, it turns the background black and text white. Apple introduced some semblance of a dark mode with OS X Yosemite, but it turned only the menu bar and the Dock dark.
